Shotokan in Serbia

Postby Malt3zE » Sun Feb 22, 2009 9:40 pm

The first karate klub in Yugoslavia was founded in 28.april 1963.Back then Serbia was one of many countries wich formed Republic of Yugoslavia. In 90' Yugoslavia fall appart and today there are six countries.
Karate Association of Yugoslavia was founded 1.mart 1970.
The first Serbian Championship was in 1966.
The first Yugoslavian Championship was in 1968.
Since then karate (especially Shotokan) was very popular and our karatekas were successful in country and in the world.
Many Japanese experts worked and lived in Yugoslavia.
Taiji Kase was one of many.Takashi Tokuhisa the assistent of Kase is living even today in Slovenia (ex-Yu republic). There were many others.
Brothes Yorga,Velibor Dimitrijevic are just few among our others popular karatekas.
Today Shotokan in Serbia is very bad.Economic situacion in country is bad,so it has a great inflluence on karate. There are two major parties in karate community of Serbia. They are both Shotokan but they are in conflict.
In spite of this we have several great karatekas like Tanja Petrovic (whom is now retired from sport karate, but she is running her club in Belgrade called Nippon),Roksanda Lazarevic,Snezana Peric and others.
On international scene we are present, but in our country competitions are poor quality.

J am sorry because of my English.J hope you can manage with this writting.
Cheers

Do you have regional courses etc that you can attend or is it all at your base dojo?

Thanks again Steve :)

J have a question for you.
Do you know if Mikio Yahara have filmed any video?
You know, like "how to practise karate",etc.?
J found a lot of short clips on Youtube but the quality and length are low and short.
Is there something like Enoeda's film?

And another thing.
What do you think about Yahara?J know he is a great karateka, but J am interested in how you feel about him?
J personaly like him so much, cause his type of karate is so strong and explosive. You
almost can feel that energy called Chi coming out of him.

And again.J know that there is a topic for this kind of question, but J am interested
in your opinion.

Cheers

Milan,

Yahara sensei has not yet made any instructional video or DVD. Perhaps in the near future.

He is teaching in Kristiansund Norway this week! With a championship on SUnday.

Info available if you want to pm me

Hi Milan

well to be quite straightforward about it I personally view Yahara as one of the most dynamic and influential Karateka the JKA has ever produced. I personally like the fluidity of his movement that is coupled with extremely high levels of focused power. I also have always been a great fan of the way he performs Kata.

As Robert S has pointed out - I do not believe that there is a series of formal DVD's but i have - over the years seen a great deal of film of him in action and whilst teaching - far more than the short You Tube clips.

One man who may well have a cataloque of stuff would be Ged Moran at Legend Videos and it may be in your interest to write to ged and ask him. I am sure he would be very helpful - he also has other stuff i am sure you would find very interesting and informative.

he can be contacted here:

good luck

Oops

I have just realised that Ged Moran has been teaching in America for a while. If you contacted him and got no reply - that will be the reason - i think he is back in the UK now and i am very confident he will help you and anyone else who visits here. His company actually is a sponsor for this site so do mention TSW.

good luck
