I ask him about this every so often. He was with me this past weekend. He is a very private individual. I can probably answer some questions for you if you are interested. But do not expect a proper interview of him anytime soon...

And for good reason... He IS!

I have trained with the majority of those considered to be among the best Shotokan instructors of all time. No, I never trained with Funakoshi Sensei. Nor his son, Yoshitaka/Gigo. But I spent significant time training with Nakayama Sensei in his private dojo (the Hoitsugan) in Tokyo and pretty much every big name you can think of. Nothing against some fabulous instructors such as my 2 main instructors in Japan, Senseis Osaka and Kawawada, who could not only demonstrate impeccable technique but had teaching skill that was amazing. But Ubl Sensei is in a class by himself. He can do things that some are convinced are impossible.

Want to train with him and 14 others who also lived in Japan to further their Shotokan training? Come to the Hoitsugan Seminars here in northern California March 26-30! :-) info is here: http://www.hoitsugan.com/hoitsuganseminars4.html
