everyone has one technique! whats yours??

mine is ushuro geri, but i find uraken uchi works as no one really uses it!
catches most people out if its done fast enough.
Out of everything I have lost over the years it's my mind I miss the most!.

Personally, I find that if I position my body correctly, mirror image to oponent, then eith on his back bounce, or retreat, I use my front leg to thrust in with yoko geri, this works well for me.

Yoko Kekomi is unpopular in competition, but if timed correctly, it can work brilliantly

Kizami-gyaku sequence.

Either a two hitter, or a fake with the kizami and score with the gyaku

Ashi Barai while I'm feigning a punch. Even if it doesn't make contact it puts people off and gets you the opening you need.
I also like to push- if all else fails! Sometimes it buys you time- sometimes it's really effective. I used it on an 18-stone bloke and it really knocked him off balance. Never seen it taught in Shotokan- I saw it watching some Wado-Ryu training

intresting but if ur close enough to push, surely ud be close enough to punch? maybe a pushing punch! that gives me ideas.
after training with sensei andy sherry (8th dan) shotokan, i like to come into an attack and to the side with a enpi uchi to the ribs.

My fav is to e.g dodge an oi tsuki attack, without blocking, but simply kicking mawashi geri to their chudan. Therefore, they are almost walking onto your attack. Anyone else practice this kind of thing?

I haven't totally mastered it yet, but it's something I enjoy doing.

You need perfect timing to make this work!!!

Uraken followed by gyaka zuki followed by mae geri as quick as possible, one of them always scores and if you get two in then it's a bonus.
Another of my favourites is Uraken followed immediately with a reverse spinning mae washi geri.

I like waiting for them to kick, and if they're slow enough, I catch it and spin them slightly, and go for a ushuri-mawash to the back. I'm working on getting it to a jodan level (not the most flexible guy in the world).
It isn't massively practical for competition, but it's fun to do in training because it really frustrates the opponent.

right hand uraken and split second later right maegeri. Tends to only work first time if opponent is switched on. But it works - usually!! 8)

That sounds like a good one. Your Ushiro-Mawashi Geri needs to be very fast to make this work though right or do you spin them enough that it takes them a real while to recover?

I try to spin them as much as possible... it usually amounts to them landing with their back facing 45 degrees to me left... if you know what I mean.
My kick has got quicker since I started using it for this purpose, but like I said, I wouldn't be comfortable trying it in competition. It's just a nice move to do in training to mix it up a bit.

Gyaku zuki, gyaku zuki, gyaku zuki. Sometimes set it up with a lead leg mawashi geri or fake the lead leg mawashi geri and some times mawashi geri, uraken uchi and then gyaku zuki. Sometimes just uraken uchi then gyaku zuki and sometimes fake uraken and then gyaku. Last but not least sweep the lead leg from the inside when you are in close like deashi barai but more like just pulling his ankle towards you to unbalance the opponent then guess what? I am going to try some of the other ones posted here they all look good.
Thanks,
Tom
