movie "kill or be killed" JKA South Africa

Postby magpie » Fri Sep 28, 2007 11:55 pm

There is a movie called "kill or be killed" made in the seventies that has members of the South African JKA team as the stars in it.

Its a B grade movie with some sort of james bond plot i'm told.

I have been looking for it at the shops but can't find it, has anyone seen it?

Is it any good?

Malcolm Dorfman , Stan Schmidt and Norman Robinson are the main players from this plus Kill and Kill Again. They are not the best movies but great from the JKA SHoto point of view, as even Tanaka sensei has a cameo role!

It is available online or try the SA boys directly!

Is that the film where some French secret agaent is sent into SA to 'neutralise' a psycho leader who thinks he is the embodiment of Marduck (sp) the Babylonian God in a kind of poor 'Enter the Dragon' flick?

If it is - what a turkey of a film!!!! I remember watching it on VHS in the late 80s ......

Turkey film maybe, but these guys are legendary in the Shotokan world.

Worth it just for the sentiment if nothing else.

I know Terry Oliver at SEKU has links with JKA South Africa and i am sure if you contacted him via SEKU he would be very pleased to help - Terry is a longterm established Shotokan Bod who won a good number of titles himself BUT he must be exploding with pride at the moment - his young son Gearge just took second place in the recent world championships in Manchester

Congrats to Geaorge and 'way to go' to his Mum and Dad who must be so proud!

I was speaking to Malcom Dorfman about these films not so long ago. They are still about, just a little bit scarce.

If you are seriously interested I can ask him for you. I think Stan Schmidt is now mostly in Melbourne but Malcolm and Norman are still in SA.

This is an old thread but I found this full length version on youtube. I downloaded it and burned a dvd. The star James Ryan was a well known gymnast in South Africa. He had no Karate traing before this film and it shows. He was coached in movements by Stan Schmidt. He made another film with Schmidt and Norm Robinson called KIll and Kill Again. It was really bad but the JKA lads were great. I saw these films when they were first released. I was a brown belt training with Randall Hassell at the time. Boy am I old.

The full length film is here.
