Once again back to theory but I have given this one a lot of thought over the years and, regrettable as it may sound, given the right situation I don't believe that I'd have a problem with it, (but it's easy to say from the comfort of my chair).

Patrick - even if this subject has been discussed "to death" on other threads and/or forums - no need to be so negative - if you don't find the topic interesting then simply don' subscribe to it or post in it..... :?

Steve - yes - no problem - worry about the "softer" consequences afterwards...

I would rather be judged by twelve than carried by six!

How about looking at the question another way, in a 'life or death' situation what is it that makes somebody NOT prepared or able to kill.

If it is in your nature to be able to do it then, in the real world, do you really have the time to make it a concious decision as to how far you go or do you just do it. If you actually have the time to make that concious decision then you probably had other options.

Interesting angle Bob - worth considering IMO.

However there may well be situations where the fact that you have have the time for other choices and even if you have an aggressor at a disadvantage it may be that the situation still leaves you with a choice to make of "walk or finish it now rather than later when he comes back with mates..." (for example)

not the subject i was rolling my eyes at, just not suprised
to see another thread by an individual who is no doubt
about to tell us how he has 'been there see it done
bought the tshirt and warn us kids how real it is out there on the
streets'. as kensei said 'better to be judged by 12 than carried by
6' thats my thougths also.

Patrick do you find the expreience of others somehow threatening - there is no need to get personal over a simple question - please re-read the title of the thread and my intro

i just wonder why all your threads seem to have the same
macho bs theme? we get it, youve been there, done it, invented
it, whatever steve. with all the experience you claim, id just like to hear something more constructive from you then what you actually post.

thanks for your two replies Patrick - shall consider them fully but return to my question -

there is a whole lot of BS posted about MA and especially Shotokan karate and the ability to use it in real life situations - so i challenge that dangerous myth - if my comments about real life upset your paradigm - sorry but that could be more about you and your paradigm than me. Possibly born of 'alleged' understanding from your instructors or even you.

i just live in the real world and i am very sorry if you find that upsetting to the point that you have to personally attack and also personalise something you may not understand.

THe only issue I have with this thread so far is why you called it "UNTHINKABLE" Steve - most folk have "thought" about killing someone on many occasions - "UNDOABLE" or perhaps "UNLIVEABLEWITHAFTERWARDS" might have fitted better.......
