Got back on the bike & had many a great year of riding since.. I wasn`t going to mention leg. I broke my right one badly in `92` X country skiing. I have had pleasure of having metal in my arm & my leg. In the arm for 1 year & the leg for 18 months. With the leg the physios new my background & let me have at it! Another win for karate

My upper third fibula had broken & the lower third tibia, it was a spiral fracture with a large piece shaved off. My leg had stretched 4" & a reduction was required. The metal in my arm (7" c/w 6 screws), was relatively straight. The metal in my leg, was about 8", they had to put quite a twist in it to fit over the ankle & not one screw was the same length. In my arm about 1" of bone was pulverized & they graphed bone from my elbow. In my leg there was about a 4" piece of bone that broke off spirally, from the distal tibia. When they put the metal in 2 of the 9 screws went through the sound end of the tibia through the piece to the unsound end. ( proximal - distal) I broke my leg in feb & first tested for nidan in december, then again in march of 93, then finally successfully in july 93. I went to Cathy Clines camp both years in may, admittedly in the first year there were challenges, I couldn`t run, so I hopped & skipped. Other than being a bit tender right at the site of the spiral fracture my leg is fine. So in my mind, I owe a lot to karate. Now if it would fix my old arthritic knees
I might slow down at times, but I just can`t stop.
