As an example of thier 'style' of shotokan i am sure it's fine but if you look at the fundamentals - it was simply some very fit and athletic young men doing something with 'common timing'

the number of very basic flaws in technique was - sorry - huge!

However - they are competing under modern rules and i am sure under those rules it is fine. Very athletic. focused, sharp etc but basics -

If the fundamentals were better i would have really liked it - but didn't as it was - SORRY!

Dear fujicolt
Could you please kindly explain for us where they make mistake or is wrong, and what can you (or we) do to be successfull and have a medalist England Kate Team in official wourld championships.(W.K.F & J.K.A)
Unfortunately Engalnd Karate Team has never been (recently) successfull in wourld championship(official tournaments), and has never delivered its best. Why?

Thanks
Farzad

Looks very nice, the thing that I noticed was that it didn't seem to flow. Their performance had an awful lot of stops and starts obviously for catch up and timing purposes.

This link is to Kanazawa Sensei on youtube, the main man of Shotokan as far as the federation I am with are concerned; Others may disagree cos they follow someone elses teachings. lol.
See the difference in the flow and ebb of the kata Helspeth. Each to their own I suppose.

I'd say that would be down to the lack of funds and support to the athletes. I think Hazard Sensei (squad coach) had the Kata squad together no more than 3 or 4 times last year. As for the 2006 world championships - England wasn't even going to attend until funding arrived at the last minute and a reduced squad was sent. We have the talent in this country but sadly we have fallen behind most of Europe in our set-up.

I agree. It was very well synchronised, but I really didn't like the way it looked. I'm trying to learn Unsu at the moment, the jump being the only bit I can't get right now. I was under the impression you had to kick your hand, but I can't see where they've done that. Each move looked good, but there was no flow.
Didn't really fit in with my idea of Unsu, but then everyone's got different interpretations.

Well Garry the Kanazawa one does look better but I don't know a lot. I can tell that the group are trying to keep in time with each other, thats probably why it doesn't flow as well as the single person.

You know a lot more than you think! You know more now than you did three years ago.
